Top 10 favorite Erin Condren Life Planner Spreads

May 28, 2020

My instagram feed has been flooded with some really beautiful Erin Condren spreads recently, and while I haven’t planned in an Erin Condren in over two years, I still think they are so beautiful and amazing to look at. I’ve wanted to do this post for a while, but what I was unprepared for was the wave of emotions as I re-read and took photos of my spreads.

As I took my planners off the shelves and started to flip through them, it really took me to a reflective state of mind. Nostalgia washed over me in waves as I contemplated where I was four years ago and who I used to be. I saw the sweet moments of experiences with my boyfriend, who become my fiance, my husband, and the father of our beautiful daughter. I flipped through pages of wedding planning, engagement photos, and vendor deposits. I saw my sister’s 21st birthday dinner – she’s married now to an incredible person. I saw funerals, parties and get togethers. I remembered snow-ma-geddon, when my then fiance and I had to dig our cars out of 3 feet of snow, and thought about how our neighborhood rallied together.  I looked through family time, outings, and game nights. My life was so different four years ago, but it is still very much the same – surrounded with family, friends, love and joy – and that is truly beautiful.

Today, I’ll be sharing my favorite 10 spreads in my Erin Condren Horizontal and Vertical planners. I hope you enjoy!

#10 – Teal and Summery

I don’t know what it is about this spread, but it just makes me think of summer! Maybe it’s the teal with the neutral? I don’t know – either way it makes me want to take a dip in a nice cool pool with a margarita.

#9 – Cozy Christmas

I mean, who doesn’t love a festive Christmas spread? I love the neutral toned down palette. I also especially loved reading through the events – it gives me such tidings of comfort and joy to see my family’s traditions, and I love that we do the same things every year together.

#8 – Purple and Black

Purple and black is so my jam. I remember getting the diamond washi tape and being so excited to use it.

#7 – Pink, Black, and Grey Neutral

Pink, black, and grey is so classic. I love the Chanel bag (…my dream bag!) and the neutral tones of this spread. The paper clips are also some of my favorites!

#6 – Merry Christmas!

Merry Christmas, part 2! Another festive spread – I love the red and gold, and the ugly Christmas sweater is so fun! The woodland animals with hats are just adorable, making his one of my favorites.

#5 – Purple and Pink Floral

For me, this set up is so punchy. I don’t know why – the punches of the coral and purple underlined with the black accents make me so happy. I love crisp black lines and so this one is a top favorite for me.

#4 – Moody Neutral Marble

I am OBSESSED with the colors in this. I love marble patterns, and the colors here are just stunning. The Kraft sticky note was such a fun find at the Target dollar spot – one of my [former] shopping weaknesses.

#3 – Teal and Pink

Another bright, cheerful color palette -the teal dress in the middle is one of my favorites, coupled with the gold diamond washi.

#2 – Valentines Week

I must have been going through a pink phase four years ago, because every other spread is pink! One thing I really loved about this spread was the gold – I used sparkly glitter washi squares and cut them down to size, and they make me so happy.

#1 – Wedding Week

For obvious reasons, our wedding week is the winner of my favorite spread. Such a joyful and happy time in my life, where I would be forever changed. I love the wedding countdown stickers, I love the honeymoon countdown stickers for our vacation to Disneyland – there is so much joy in this post!

So there you have it! My top 10 favorite Erin Condren spreads – this was so much fun to do, I think I may do it with some of my Traveler’s Notebook spreads as well.

Happy Planning, everyone!

Harry Potter TN Set Up

May 22, 2020

As an Amazon affiliate, I make a small commission based on qualifying purchases. Please read full disclaimer here.

Y’all, I absolutely love this set up.

It’s been sitting on my desk for an embarrassing amount of time, I’ll admit, because you know. Life. But I still can’t bear to disassemble it because I just love it so much.

Since I started planning in 2014, I’ve been collecting Harry Potter Stuff – planner stickers and washi tape specifically. When I made the switch to TN’s, I [obviously] amassed a ton of Harry Potter die cuts [as one does when they plan in a TN], and so I’m happy to show off a bit of my collection here. I hope you enjoy!

I just love it. The planner itself is a Foxy Fix Boss Babe No. 2 in Cambridge leather. Swoon. I just felt like it had that old world Harry Potter feel. Like a spell book. Or maybe that homework planner that Hermione bought Ron and Harry in OOtP.

The Planner Sack is from Shameless Stickers and I love it. It gives me a Hagrid/Care of Magical Creatures vibe, but its also a practical way to store my planner. They grey goes with everything and it is so soft. The Prongs planner charm is also from Shameless.

Golden Snitch and Coffee Cup from Studio L2E, Sticky Notes from Nerdy Paper Co., Stopper in Death from Ursa Mama Creations

I was going for a classic Harry Potter vibe using the classic house colors. I found a digital paper pack from a shop called Coffee Doodles on Etsy. I loved the primary colors, and I printed them on cardstock from Amazon. I’m so pleased with the way it turned out, and it is a cheaper alternative to buying scrapbook paper at a craft store.

Sticker kit is from Nerdy Paper Co.

I love love love the midnight vibe of this sticker kit from Nerdy Paper Co. She has the BEST Harry Potter Stuff, and I use so many of her items in this set up (and others, too!).

Dashboards and Quidditch Gal are also from Nerdy Paper Co.
Another little area I love.

Finally, here is what the inside back cover looks like – I love the way it turned out.

I swear, people in this planner community are so talented – I wish I could draw! This is another favorite spot in this set up. The Ravenclaw Sweatshirt and HP Letter Diecuts are from JkruuuPlans, and the Always Dashboard is another Nerdy Paper Co. I always laminate all of my die cuts with this laminator off Amazon. It makes them last forever and they are then reusable

Well, those are some of the highlights – if you’re interested in the full flip, the YouTube video is at the top of this page 🙂

What’s your favorite place to get Harry Potter planner stuff from? I’m always looking for new shops 🙂

Why I no longer plan in an Erin Condren Teacher Planner…(and what I use instead)

May 27, 2019

My days are WILD. And I wouldn’t have it any other way. I think the wild-ness of teaching is part of the draw for me – I love the unexpected, and I love that every day I walk into something different – it’s new, the kids are exciting and I am not chained to a desk all day.

However, with all the chaos that is inherent to teaching, so is my natural desire to find order, simplicity and minimalism in my classroom environment. I’m a floater teacher – my regular course load this year consisted of Middle and High School Choir, 9th Grade English, Intro to Theatre, Musical Theatre and 8th Grade Theatre.

I teach in a different space Every. Single. Period. Because of my transience, 5 years ago I switched to a paperless classroom. I refuse to wheel composition books and binders home to grade with me in a cart. I refuse to spend what little planning time I have chained to the copier. I refuse to spend time, energy and money developing a way for students to turn in worksheets, or throw my back out carrying around paper copies of essays to grade. I decided to take back my life and work SMARTER, not HARDER.  Classwork, homework, novels, teaching materials are all scanned electronically and submitted using a combination of Google Drive and our online learning platform, and I finally feel like I have found balance between teaching, grading, organization, and my personal life.

…but for some reason I held on to a paper planner for the duration of my 10-year teaching adventure. I drunk the Erin Condren Kool-Aid Long ago, and I suppose it was the last thing I wanted to give up to go truly digital. In my Erin Condren days,  I spent a whole planning period on Friday afternoons filling out my lesson plans for the following week – meticulously writing each class in a different color, decorating with appropriate stickers, fashioning my to-do lists with gusto and aplomb, but I wasted so much time that I could be putting to the one million of tasks that are thrown my way in a day. Around December, out went my ritual of writing in the planner. I was just too damn busy.

Taking out my beautiful, huge Erin Condren Teacher Planner on the tiny high-top tables eventually started to stress me out. It was just another task on my to-do list, I wasn’t enjoying it, and I was falling into disorganization because I wasn’t writing my lessons down. It was also physically weighing me down because I had to carry that big beautiful planner in my teacher bag every single period. Is it really worth it?

I parted ways with my Erin Condren Teacher planner this February. It pained me to do so, because it’s gorgeous and expensive and I loved it, but it just wasn’t working with my current situation. If I still had one classroom space where I could spread out and keep it in one spot, it would be more functional for me, but with my current teaching situation as a floater, it just doesn’t work.

I just want everyone to take a moment of silence for my Erin Condren.

Ok. Thanks. Because it was a hard parting, because I do love her and she is beautiful. I just really like saving money and functionality more.

Now, enter: THE GOOGLE DRIVE LESSON PLANNER.

Game changer. Total and complete game changer.

Of course, I first turned to Pinterest and did a search for ‘digital teacher planner.’

And what I found, I was not disappointed.

Having my planner on my laptop has been a complete and total game changer. I used this particular one from Teachers Pay Teachers. There are A MILLION ways to customize this planner. Not only does she include two different themes, but she also includes the Google Drive file templates for anywhere from 1-8 classes in horizontal and vertical layouts, as well as the monthly views for each month of the year. You have all the files you need to create a custom teacher planner of your choice. If you find that digital planing is not your thing, you can always print the files and put them in your own binding. There’s also a digital sticker pack she includes to decorate with things like “Early Release” and “Field Trip” that are also completely customizable. If that’s not enough, she includes FREE updates for life. That’s right. FREE. Every year you can log in and download the upcoming school year’s templates and it’s AMAZING. I paid $17.99 ONE TIME for a planner that makes my life a million times easier, compared to the $60 I spent YEARLY on my Erin Condren. I mean, on a tight teacher salary…even TIGHTER now that we have Baby Girl’s childcare to pay for … it’s really a no brainer. I’ve even converted multiple members of our teaching faculty to this planner. It’s amazing!

I’ve been operating out of a paperless classroom for maybe 4+ years now…I have no idea why I waited so long to switch to a digital format for my lesson plan book. It only seems natural to make the switch. My students love it too, because I frequently project it at the beginning of class to set the tone for the week. “Now everybody take out your planners – let’s take a look at what we have going on this week!” and “Here’s what’s coming up…when would YOU like to take your test?” Giving them a say in something as simple as scheduling a test or project makes them feel like they are part of the process of this collaborative learning…(especially when I could care less if a test is on Wednesday or Thursday…)

My parting thoughts are that if you have any inclination or impulse to try digital planning but you feel nervous, or overwhelmed, take the plunge and DO IT. There’s no time like the present, and with being on the brink of summer, it’s a good time to try it out and get your bearings before the school year. You will LOVE it!

Here is the link again if you are interested in checking it out!

I’d love talking about planners, and I’d love to know what kind of teacher planner do YOU use? Digital? Erin Condren? Plum paper?

Creating ‘space’ and switching to TNs

May 15, 2019

Well it’s been a minute.

And by a minute I obviously mean more than 2 years – yikes.

I’m not too sure why I let things lapse the way I did….exhaustion? Theatre Rehearsals? Insecurity?

All I know now is that I am feeling more creative and inspired than ever, and I so I just opened up a folder today and started typing.

Maybe it’s the nesting…with Baby Girl due in August, I’m just feeling a strong pull to organize and Marie Kondo the shit out of my life. In the past month my husband and I have cleaned out our storage locker, thrown away bags of ‘stuff’ that was dirty, broken or unusable, reorganized our basement, donated my husband’s bachelor’ pad furniture to Second Chance, and given 28 bags of housewares, bakeware and clothing to Purple Heart – and we live in a 928 square foot Baltimore City rowhome – where did all this crap come from? An our house wasn’t even messy to start with! Crazy how much things can accumulate.READ MORE

Review of Week 22

June 1, 2016

Review 22 .jpeg

Started off with a BANG this week – my hubby-to-be and I purchased a super nice camera for our Honeymoon (the Sony A5100), and after spending a month with it, I was feeling ready and practiced enough to film a Plan-With-Me. So I did! Filmed my first PWM annnnnnnnd my head was in the shot the entire time. Fabulous. So no PWM this week – next week I’m hoping.

Review of Week 21

May 23, 2016

This week started off, hectic, as always. The highlights include:

Review 21

  1. Spending a whole bunch of money on wedding bills, and regular bills – I LOVE watching my money disappear – not.
  2. Grading 37 papers – I found that grading a few ‘here and there’ wasn’t making a dent, so I set a schedule and did 5 a day, marked by the adorable Studio L2E stamp check lists. So cute, and managed to get my work done.  Without a doubt, the least favorite part of my job.
  3. My bridal shower on Saturday – I am so lucky to be surrounded by so many incredible women – my mom and sister really just out did themselves on making such a perfect day for all of us. We had tea (My Fave), walked around the gardens, and enjoyed each other’s company – it was truly a lovely day.
  4. Cappies Gala Sunday Night – I’m a high school theatre director, and the award ceremony for the area’s theatre awards (best actress, best actor, etc) was Sunday night. It was a black tie event, so I did my first ever, Rent the Runway and it was a FABULOUS experience. The kids had so much fun, and it was so wonderful to see them all dressed up and so supportive of each other – I LOVE those moments. They are my favorite as a teacher 🙂

Honeymoon Shopping – Part 1: Disney

May 3, 2016

Honeymoon Shopping copyIs it terrible that I am more excited for our honeymoon than our wedding day? I’m so serious. Don’t get me wrong, I am SO Excited for our marriage, but am 100% not into the ‘dream wedding’ thing.  I find myself daydreaming about our honeymoon in the middle of work, and have to pull myself back to reality about 15 times a day – so sad. My fiancée and I have never taken a vacation together, so I am so looking forward to going away for the first time. I couldn’t imagine going anywhere more amazing than the happiest place on earth ….DISNEYLAND! – Followed by 4 days in Las Vegas, which neither of us have ever been to. Complete opposites, I KNOW, and I cannot be more pumped for our juxtaposing experiences.

When we were deciding on where to take our honeymoon– we really tried as best we could to plan something within our means financially (See more about ways to save money on your wedding here). Disney seemed like the perfect option for us. Our flights are covered by my SouthWest Points, and the only part we have to pay for is our hotel and park admission, which while it is expensive, is totally worth the experience. I’m an experience over stuff person any day of the week. Plus, there is something about Disney that is so special – that indescribable feeling while you’re walking through, people watching and seeing families at their best (and sometimes worst), the different smells, finding the special details that surround the place.  AHHH I love it. LOVE IT!

This particular post will focus primarily on sharing Disney related purchases. Part 2: Las Vegas – Coming Soon!
